With winter upon us, temperatures can drop to a dangerous level and for our furry friends, we need to take some extra precautions. Here are a few tips to ensure your pet is kept safe this winter.
Never leave your cat or dog alone in a cold vehicle.
A vehicle can act like a refrigerator in the winter, keeping the cold in which can cause your pet to freeze.
Clean paws after being outside.
Ice melt and salt can cause irritation. Wipe paws with a warm cloth to be on the safe side. Also, consider using pet-friendly ice melt for your walks and driveways.
Play dress up.
If your pet has a short coat or seems bothered by the weather – consider sweaters and booties.
Stay clear of ice and water.
The ice may look nice but could be unstable. You don’t want your furry friend falling through the ice into the freezing water.
Get cozy. Ensure your pet has a warm place to sleep. A dog or cat bed with a warm blanket or pillow is perfect.
Remember, if it’s too cold for you out there – it’s probably too cold for your pet. Best to keep them indoors during the really cold snaps.
Hopefully, these safety tips help keep your pet safe during this winter.
